Mentorship Program Overview

The LSO mentorship program designed for science and business professionals at any stage in their career. The program is semi-formal in structure to allow flexibility in the duration and frequency of meetings between the Mentor and Protégés.   The general process for a participant is summarized in the following diagram:

The program matches mentors to protégés monthly, based on interests, experience, and protégé eligibility. Matched participants are informed electronically, and qualified applicants without suitable matches are reconsidered in the subsequent month.

Matched participants are invited to attend exclusive networking events biannually to meet their mentor/protégé as well as other participants of the program. The event also includes a training session to provide mentors and protégés with additional skills to help them make the most of the mentoring relationship.

Mentors and protégés are expected to commit at least 3 months and up to 1 year to the program. During this time, the pair are expected to set goals, establish a plan, and work towards those goals. The program also requires protégés to provide periodic updates to ensure ongoing participation.

When the formal relationship is complete, participants should inform the program, and request a new match (if desired). We encourage all our mentors to consider a new protégé, and graduating protégés to consider trying their hand at sharing their knowledge with others!
